Dr. Justin West, Music Director for Calvary, serves as both organist and pianist while directing both the Choir and Ensemble. He is part of the University of Texas’ tenured faculty, teaching UT students what he practices at Calvary; blending a range of singers (beginning through highly trained singers) in our choirs, seemingly effortlessly…All while bringing exceptional music week after week. Dr. West also has managed to pull off the blending of musical styles in our church services. Our Ensemble has a more contemporary focus. Our Choir is oriented towards more traditional church music. Sometimes we have separate services for each musical group. Often the Choir and Ensemble sing at the same service. Special programs are featured throughout the church year. High Holy Days are not to be missed.
Ensemble
Our Calvary Ensemble leads contemporary selections, traditional spirituals and other music at our 10 AM service. Director of Music Ministries Dr. Justin West accompanies them on the piano. Songs you are likely to hear at this service are “How Great Is Our God,” “Glorify Your Name,” “Surely the Presence of the Lord,” and “I Saw the Light.” The Contemporary Ensemble meets for rehearsal every Wednesday from 5:45 to 6:45 PM. Choir
Our Choir leads traditional hymnody at our 10 AM service and is led by our Director of Music Ministries Dr. Justin West on the organ. We also singers from the University of Texas Butler School of Music who provides musical leadership. Hymns come mostly from the Hymnal 1982 and offertory selections from various composers. On High Holy Days such as Christmas and Easter, special musical performances often include additional musicians on strings, wind and brass instruments. The Choir meets for rehearsal every Wednesday from 7 to 8 PM. If you would like to join them or learn more, please contact Dr. Justin West.
